Dallas Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison signed a multi-year contract extension with the club Tuesday.

Financial and term details were undisclosed.

Harrison's new deal comes as the Mavericks prepare to play in the Finals for the first time since they captured the franchise's only title in 2011. They'll open the series on the road against the Boston Celtics on Thursday.

"Nico Harrison has demonstrated his leadership and capabilities in the Dallas Mavericks organization. His vision, along with his efforts on behalf of our players and staff have propelled our team to two playoff appearances in three seasons and, of course, this year's NBA Finals," team owner Patrick Dumont said in a statement, courtesy of basketball insider Marc Stein. "We are proud to have him as part of our team for the long term, and we are excited to watch him continue to build on the foundation of success he has helped establish."

Hired in June 2021 after two decades as a Nike executive, Harrison's first move in charge of the Mavericks was signing current head coach Jason Kidd, whose own contract was extended by the organization in May. Harrison was also behind the February 2023 acquisition of All-Star guard Kyrie Irving, sending Spencer Dinwiddie and Dorian Finney-Smith, as well as a first-round pick plus two second-rounders to the Brooklyn Nets.

At the February trade deadline, seven months after acquiring Grant Williams in a three-team sign-and-trade, Harrison flipped the former Boston Celtics forward to the Charlotte Hornets as part of a package for P.J. Washington and two second-rounders in this year's draft. He also landed starting center Daniel Gafford from the Washington Wizards for Richaun Holmes and a 2024 first-round pick.

Behind co-stars Irving and Luka Doncic, Washington and Gafford have been among Dallas' most important players on this run: They've each started all 17 playoff games and averaged a combined 22.8 points and 12.6 rebounds.
