Report: Hawks trade Dejounte Murray to Pelicans
The Atlanta Hawks are trading guard Dejounte Murray to the New Orleans Pelicans for Larry Nance Jr., Dyson Daniels, E.J. Liddell, and two first-round picks, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on Friday.
Atlanta will be receiving the Los Angeles Lakers' 2025 first-round pick and the least favorable of the Pelicans and Milwaukee Bucks' first-rounder in 2027.
Murray spent the last two seasons in Atlanta alongside point guard Trae Young, during which time the team never eclipsed a .500 record. He came over from the San Antonio Spurs, with whom he was an All-Star in 2022.
The Pelicans played last season without a true point guard, and no one on the roster topped Murray's 6.4 assists per game. The 27-year-old also averaged 22.5 points and 5.3 rebounds during the campaign.
Meanwhile, the Hawks are one step closer to a rebuild after failing to win a playoff series in three years.
Nance will spend next season on an expiring $11-million deal. He averaged 5.7 points per game last year, his lowest mark since his rookie campaign. The 21-year-old Daniels, meanwhile, has earned praise for his defense in his two NBA seasons, but the guard has made just 31.2% of his threes in his career.
