Kyrie undergoes surgery after breaking hand
Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving underwent surgery recently after breaking his left hand while training earlier this month, the team announced, per insider Marc Stein.
The Mavericks didn't provide an expected timetable for recovery but said that further updates on his status would be delivered when appropriate.
Irving averaged 25.6 points, 5.2 assists, and five rebounds in 58 games for Dallas last season. Alongside Luka Doncic, he led the franchise to its first NBA Finals in 13 years.
The 32-year-old missed some time during the regular season but due to unrelated ailments; a right heel contusion caused him to miss 12 consecutive contests in December before a thumb sprain on his right hand ruled him out for six straight games the following month.
