The Philadelphia 76ers have signed forward Gani Lawal from VEF Riga of the Latvian League.

Lawal spent three years at Georgia Tech and was a second round pick of the Phoenix Suns in 2010, though he's played just two NBA minutes.

The College Park-born Nigerian spent last season with Virtus Roma of the Italian League and Guangzhou Liu Sui of the Chinese NBL. Prior to that, he had played with Iowa of the D-League, Zastal Zielona Gora of the Polish League, the Xinjiang Flying Tigers of the CBA and Chorale Roanne of the French League.

Yeah, dude's been around.

The 6-foot-9 forward had signed what was considered a "substantial deal" in Europe this offseason but an NBA roster spot was enough to bring him back.

The Sixers now have 21 players on their roster, one over the training camp limit, so a cut is likely forthcoming.

The partial guarantee in his contract likely means Lawal will be on the roster when the season starts, and such an agreement was probably necessary to lure him from Latvia.
