Randy Foye's internal organs are reversed

Randy Foye's heart is on his right side.

No, it's not meant to be some kind of metaphor. Foye's heart is literally on his right side.

According to The Denver Post, the Nuggets point guard has situs inversus, a rare condition that reverses the major visceral organs from their normal positions.

"Everything is a mirror image, flipped around," Foye explained. "Your organs are reversed, so my heart isn't on the left side, it's on the right side. And my liver isn't on the right, it's on the left.

"A little different, right?"

One out of every 10,000 people have situs inversus according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, and it's Foye's understanding that he's the only player in major American sports who has the condition.

"It's cool, man, to know that I'm the only one," Foye said.

The 30-year-old discovered that he had the condition after catching a flu bug that eventually turned into pneumonia at the age of nine.

"My grandmother would always tell me, 'Don't take your coat off at the park,' and as soon as I'd get to the park, I'd take my coat off," Foye said.

Interestingly, Foye will be meeting with a high school athlete named Evan Villanueva, who also has situs inversus, at the Nuggets' preseason home opener. And Villanueva couldn't be more excited to meet the NBA player.

"I was like, 'That's crazy - that's my new favorite player," Villanueva said. "I've never met anybody with it."
