Wizards' Brogdon makes season debut in loss to Pistons

The Washington Wizards got some veteran help in the backcourt Sunday night.

Malcolm Brogdon made his season debut in Sunday's 124-104 loss to the Detroit Pistons. He scored one point and added two rebounds while shooting zero of four from the field in 22 minutes.

Brogdon underwent right thumb surgery in October to fix a torn ligament. He hadn't played for the Wizards since they acquired him from the Portland Trail Blazers on draft night.

The 2016-17 Rookie of the Year had been out since Feb. 2. He missed the final 33 games last season due to an elbow injury.

Injuries have plagued the 2023 Sixth Man of the Year his entire career. He's only appeared in 60-plus games three times across eight seasons.

Brogdon joins a young Washington backcourt that includes Bub Carrington, Jordan Poole, Kyshawn George, and Bilal Coulibaly. The 2-9 Wizards currently sit 13th in the East.

Brogdon has averaged 15.4 points, 4.7 assists, and 4.2 rebounds during his career. He previously played for the Milwaukee Bucks, Indiana Pacers, Boston Celtics, and Blazers.
