Hawks fined $100K for holding Trae out of NBA Cup game
The Atlanta Hawks were fined $100,000 for violating the NBA's player participation policy by holding Trae Young out of their NBA Cup game win over the Boston Celtics, the league announced Tuesday.
Atlanta listed Young out for the Nov. 12 contest due to right achilles tendinitis. It's the only game he has missed this season.
"Following an investigation, including review by an independent physician, the NBA determined that the Hawks held Young out of a game that he could have played in under the medical standard in the policy," the league said.
Young had played in the Hawks' two games prior to the Celtics matchup, logging 41 and 38 minutes, respectively, in a back-to-back set against the Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls. Atlanta lost both games.
The 26-year-old guard missed 28 games last season with a right achilles issue.
In 17 contests this campaign, Young is averaging 21.9 points and 3.6 rebounds, and he leads the NBA with 11.9 assists per game. The Hawks are 7-11 and have lost three in a row. They next play Wednesday against the 17-1 Cleveland Cavaliers.
