Edwards docked $75K for ripping refs in 3rd fine of season
The NBA fined Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards $75,000 on Monday for using profane language while publicly criticizing officials following his team's loss Saturday to the Golden State Warriors.
Edwards took issue with referees Sean Wright and Sean Corbin, calling them "f-----g terrible" when speaking to reporters postgame. He accused Wright and Corbin of unequal treatment that favored the Warriors but absolved the crew's third official, Simone Jelks.
"Tonight was bad," Edwards said Saturday. "(Golden State) was getting ticky-tack fouls, and we weren't getting nothing."
The fine is Edwards' third in just over a month but his first for publicly rebuking referees. The league fined the 23-year-old $35,000 in November for giving someone the middle finger while on the court during a road game versus the Sacramento Kings. Edwards also received a $25,000 penalty on Dec. 9 for using profanity when praising teammates to reporters after a win over the Warriors.
Saturday was Minnesota's second straight loss following Thursday's 26-point defeat to the New York Knicks. The Timberwolves are 14-13 and sit 10th in the Western Conference, occupying the final play-in seed. They share the same record as the Phoenix Suns but own the tiebreaker after winning the only meeting between the teams on Nov. 17.
