Paul: Spurs can't use youth as excuse for blown games
San Antonio Spurs guard Chris Paul wants to see the young club take a step forward and figure out ways to close out games in the fourth quarter.
The Spurs led the New York Knicks 102-94 with over seven minutes left in the fourth quarter before ultimately losing Wednesday's game 117-114.
"We got to get to that point where all that 'young guy stuff' got to go out the window," Paul said postgame, according to Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio Express-News. "We pros just like everybody else, and there's a grit and a will that you got to have in this league in order to figure out ways to win those games, especially on the road."
Paul chipped in 13 points, seven assists, six rebounds, and one steal across 36 minutes in the loss. Sophomore center Victor Wembanyama scored a game-high 42 points but didn't net any in the final seven minutes.
The Spurs entered the campaign with the third-youngest roster in the NBA. Paul, 39, signed a one-year, $11-million deal with the club in the offseason.
San Antonio dropped to 15-15 with the defeat and 4-8 on the road.
