Riley: Heat won't trade Butler
Miami Heat president Pat Riley is tired of the trade rumors surrounding forward Jimmy Butler.
"We usually don't comment on rumors, but all this speculation has become a distraction to the team and is not fair to the players and coaches. Therefore, we will make it clear: We are not trading Jimmy Butler," said Riley in a team-issued statement.
It was reported Wednesday that Butler would prefer a move out of Miami before the trade deadline but has not formally requested a trade.
Butler's reported desired landing spots include the Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors, Dallas Mavericks, and his hometown Houston Rockets. However, it was previously reported that the Rockets are unlikely to pursue the six-time All-Star.
The 35-year-old holds a $52-million player option for 2025-26, and interested teams have reportedly been told he intends to decline the option this summer. If not moved he's prepared to play out of the rest of the year on the Heat before entering free agency.
Butler is averaging 18.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.9 assists across 20 contests this season. He has missed the Heat's last two games due to illness and is doubtful for Thursday's matchup with the Orlando Magic.
The Heat currently sit sixth in the Eastern Conference at 14-13.
