Rockets' Thompson, Heat's Rozier suspended for late-game brawl
The NBA suspended Houston Rockets forward Amen Thompson two games and Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier one game following Sunday's on-court altercation between their teams, the league announced Tuesday.
Rockets wing Jalen Green and Heat guard Tyler Herro were each fined $35,000 and $25,000, respectively.
Houston head coach Ime Udoka, who was ejected in the incident's immediate aftermath for unsportsmanlike comments toward referee Marc Davis, was fined $50,000 for verbally abusing an official and failing to leave the court in a timely manner.
Sunday's scuffle broke out during a stoppage in play with just over 35 seconds remaining in Miami's 104-100 win.
As Thompson approached Herro to defend the guard on the Heat's inbound, the two jawed with each other before the Rockets' second-year wing whipped Herro to the ground in front of the Heat's bench. Rozier went after Thompson in response, and Green came to his teammate's aid.
Rockets guard Fred VanVleet was ejected seconds prior to the altercation for bumping into Davis by the scorer's table. He avoided a suspension - the outcome he was hoping for, he told reporters postgame. However, he was still fined $35,000 for making reckless contact with the official.
