Thunder's Daigneault will coach in revamped All-Star Game
Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault was confirmed as a coach for one of the four teams in the NBA's revamped All-Star Game in San Francisco, the league announced Sunday.
Daigneault earned the spot with the Thunder's 127-101 victory over the Brooklyn Nets, as his team secured the best record in the Western Conference through games played until Feb. 2.
"An honor," Daigneault said of the accomplishment after the win. "Huge thank you to all the people that are behind the scenes on that in the organization that work with the players, not only this season, but in previous seasons. This has been a build, and a lot of people have their fingerprints on that. So a huge thank you to them."
The All-Star Game will feature a tournament involving four teams in a bracket system. The winners from the first two matchups will face off in the championship, where the first team to reach or surpass 40 points will be declared the victor.
One of Daigneault's assistants will serve as another head coach. The other two bench bosses will be a head coach and assistant from the Eastern Conference's top team.
Daigneault is the Thunder's first All-Star Game coach since Scott Brooks in 2014. Oklahoma City is off to its best start in franchise history under Daigneault, as it went 35-7 over the first half of the campaign.
The All-Star Game is Feb. 16 at 8 p.m. ET.
