Spurs' Wemby, Castle highlight Rising Stars game roster

San Antonio Spurs phenom Victor Wembanyama and rookie Stephon Castle highlight the selections for the 2025 Rising Stars game at All-Star Weekend.

The annual event features 21 NBA rookies and sophomores and seven G League players.

The NBA players will be drafted into three seven-player teams, and the G Leaguers will compose a fourth team. They will then compete in a mini tournament with the winning team heading to the new-look All-Star Game.

The 2025 All-Star Game will have a new tournament-style format featuring three teams of NBA All-Stars and the winner of the Rising Stars game.

Castle has been a great second option next to Wembanyama for the Spurs. He is tied for the lead among rookies in points per game with 11.7 to go along with 2.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. Memphis Grizzlies wing Jaylen Wells, who was selected in the second round of last year's draft, is also averaging 11.7 points.

Missing from the list is center Kel'el Ware who has emerged as an elite scorer since entering the Miami Heat's starting five. He has been putting up 17 points and 10.3 boards as a starter.

Wembanyama is the reigning Rookie of the Year, and he has taken a huge leap in Year 2. The 7-foot-3 big man is averaging 24.5 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.1 steals, and 3.9 blocks.

Houston Rockets forward Amen Thompson has also developed his offensive game this season to match his stellar defensive work. He dropped a career-high 33 points in Monday's win over the Boston Celtics, including the game-winning shot.

Reed Sheppard was the third-overall pick by the Rockets in the 2024 draft. The Kentucky product exploded for 49 points and splashed in eight treys in his G League debut for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

Mac McClung will also be participating in the Slam Dunk contest and looking for his third consecutive victory.

The 2025 Rising Stars game will take place Feb. 14 in San Francisco. TNT analyst and WNBA legend Candace Parker will serve as the honorary general manger for the Rising Stars champion at the All-Star Game.
