The Indiana Pacers traded center James Wiseman and cash to the Toronto Raptors for a conditional second-round pick, the teams announced.
The Raptors immediately waived Wiseman, they announced, per ESPN's Bobby Marks.
The conditional second-round pick heading to Indiana is top-55 protected, according to Sportsnet's Blake Murphy.
Wiseman, 23, is expected to miss the rest of the campaign after tearing his left Achilles in the first game of the season.
The move gives Indiana more breathing room under the NBA tax line, Marks reported. The Pacers were just $147,000 clear of the luxury tax before trading Wiseman, who's earning $2.2 million this season and had a $2.6-million team option for 2025-26 before being waived. It also opens up a roster spot should they choose to try to sign someone in the buyout market.
Wiseman averaged 7.1 points and 5.3 rebounds in 63 games for the Detroit Pistons last season, making six starts. He signed a two-year deal with the Pacers in the summer but played just 4-and-a-half minutes in their regular-season opener against his former team before getting injured.
