Gordon: My 2016 dunks were better than Carter's in 2000
Vince Carter put on what some consider to be the best performance in NBA Slam Dunk contest history in 2000, but Denver Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon believes he outdid it with his first appearance at the All-Star Weekend event.
During an appearance Wednesday on FanDuel TV's "Run It Back," Gordon said he thinks his 2016 Slam Dunk contest performance was better than Carter's showing.
"Personally, I think that was the best one," Gordon said of the 2016 contest. "I think there is a bit of nostalgia that plays into that 2000 dunk contest, you know?
"Respectfully, Vince Carter is the GOAT, you know what I mean? But I think if you put my four dunks up against Vince Carter's four dunks, objectively I think my four dunks were better."
Gordon finished second to Zach LaVine in 2016 and was runner-up again to Derrick Jones Jr. in 2020, after which he vowed he wouldn't compete in any future Slam Dunk contests.
The 29-year-old may be ready to end his boycott, though, as he teased a possible return to the event Tuesday on X after Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant called him out.
