Suns erase 23-point deficit to stun Clippers
The Phoenix Suns battled back from a 23-point deficit Tuesday to stun the Los Angeles Clippers 119-117.
Kevin Durant contributed 19 points in the fourth quarter alone. He had 34 points, seven rebounds, four assists, one steal, and two blocks.
The Suns entered the final frame down 19 - it's the largest deficit to start a fourth quarter they've overcome in franchise history.
"We played faster on the offensive side of the ball to start the fourth quarter," Durant said postgame. "We were flying around defensively and that's usually the formula for us if we want to win basketball games."
Phoenix outscored the Clippers 43-22 in the fourth and Suns sophomore guard Collin Gillespie scored all 10 of his points in the final 12 minutes.
The Suns remain 11th in the West following the win, still three games behind the Dallas Mavericks for the final play-in spot. However, Durant is not interested in looking ahead to the postseason.
"We can't think about the big picture too much," Durant said. "We're in a tough position to be thinking about the playoffs right now, so we gotta focus on each game, each task, each possession ahead of us and see what we can do. We think too far down the line, we'll forget where we at."
Phoenix sits at 29-33 after the victory and the Clippers fall to 32-29, still holding onto the ninth seed in the conference.
Clippers big man Ivica Zubac scored a game and career-high 35 points in the loss. Kawhi Leonard and James Harden both added 21 points.
The Suns' win comes after reports emerged earlier this week that the team will could look to trade Durant in the offseason if the team doesn't improve down the stretch.
