Curry: 'It's beyond my wildest dreams' to make 4,000 3-pointers
Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry never imagined that he'd push his 3-point record to 4,000 made triples.
"It's a clear milestone threshold," Curry told ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk before reaching the marker. "A number that I didn't think about, that it was realistic even from 2,974, which is a number that means the most because that was the record at the time.
"It's beyond my wildest dreams to push a record that far."
Curry sidestepped Sacramento Kings forward Trey Lyles to create space before making the shot over him and DeMar DeRozan to reach the milestone in the third quarter of the Warriors' 130-104 win over the Kings on Thursday.
"I could feel the energy and the buzz from the beginning of the game after I made my first three, even the second one I shot and missed it was an adrenaline rush, and they were with me every moment of the game tonight," Curry said, according to Janie McCauley of The Associated Press. "When that second one went in, I knew there was a lot of game left, so I tried to not get too ahead of myself. But it was a special moment to feel that energy and allow them (the crowd) to enjoy that milestone and accomplishment with me."
The Warriors icon finished with 11 points. Draymond Green led the team in scoring with 23, while Jonathan Kuminga added 18 in his return from an ankle injury that sidelined him for 31 games.
Curry passed Ray Allen for most threes in NBA history in December 2021, adding 1,027 to the record over three years.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr joked that Curry could double his record.
"So he just keeps going the way he keeps himself in shape and conditioned in rhythm," Kerr said, per Youngmisuk. "He's going to make another 1,000 for sure."
The Warriors improved to 38-28 with the victory, ranking sixth in the Western Conference. They face the New York Knicks on Saturday.
