The NBA announced Thursday that Houston Rockets wing Dillon Brooks will be suspended one game after receiving his 16th technical foul of the season.

Brooks picked up the foul in the first quarter of Wednesday's 143-105 victory over the Utah Jazz after kicking Collin Sexton near the groin.

Brooks will serve the suspension Friday against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

An NBA player or coach who accumulates 16 technical fouls during the regular season is automatically suspended for one contest. For every two additional technical fouls, the party is banned for an additional contest.

Brooks said postgame he hoped the league would rescind the technical foul so he could play against Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, his teammate on the Canadian men's national team, according to ESPN's Michael C. Wright.

"Usually, those things are (considered) flagrants, and I guess (referee Tony Brothers) misspoke," Brooks added.

Brooks recorded 21 points in 28 minutes. The Rockets clinched a playoff spot as they improved to 50-27.
