Report: Knicks, Kidd share interest in head coaching vacancy

Dallas Mavericks bench boss Jason Kidd and the New York Knicks have "mutual intrigue" regarding the Knicks' open head coaching job, reports ESPN's Brian Windhorst.

The Knicks have yet to officially ask the Mavs to interview Kidd. However, the expectation is that Dallas would deny such a request, sources told The Athletic's James L. Edwards III.

New York fired Tom Thibodeau last week after he spent five seasons in charge. The Knicks just made their first Eastern Conference finals appearance in 25 years, in which they came up short against the Indiana Pacers.

Kidd has been the Mavs' coach since the 2021-22 campaign. He's guided the franchise to the playoffs twice, including an NBA Finals appearance last season.

The 52-year-old has two years remaining on the contract extension he signed with Dallas in 2024.

The Knicks also reportedly had interest in Houston coach Ime Udoka, but it's expected that an interview request would be denied by the Rockets.

Former Villanova coach Jay Wright also discussed the role with Knicks president Leon Rose, but he informed the team he's not interested in the job.
