Report: Spurs sign Fox to 4-year, $229M max extension

The San Antonio Spurs signed guard De'Aaron Fox to a four-year, $229-million max extension, Fox's agent Rich Paul told ESPN's Shams Charania on Monday.

The new contract doesn't include a player option and keeps Fox in San Antonio through the 2029-30 season.

Fox's extension begins in the last year of Victor Wembanyama's rookie contract. The Frenchman's eligible for a rookie extension next offseason.

Fox averaged 19.7 points and 6.8 assists per game in 17 contests with the Spurs after San Antonio acquired him from the Sacramento Kings in a three-team trade before the deadline.

Fox and Wembanyama only played five games together last year. Wembanyama was shut down for the remainder of the season due to blood clots in his shoulder a couple weeks after the deadline, but he's set to return for the 2025-26 campaign. Fox and Wembanyama have developed a close relationship, according to Charania.

Dylan Harper, whom the Spurs selected second overall in the 2025 draft, will pair up with Fox in a young, talented backcourt.

Sacramento drafted Fox fifth overall in 2017. The Kentucky product earned his first All-Star and All-NBA selection during the 2022-23 campaign. He averaged a league-leading two steals per contest the following season.
