The Memphis Grizzlies have suspended Ja Morant for one game for conduct detrimental to the team, the club announced Saturday.

The suspension comes after Morant made controversial postgame comments following Friday's loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. Morant went 3-for-14 from the field with eight points, seven assists, and one rebound over 31 minutes in the 117-112 defeat.

Following the loss, Morant repeatedly deflected questions, telling reporters to "go ask the coaching staff."

When asked what the team could've done differently in the loss, Morant replied, "According to (the coaching staff), probably don't play me, honestly. That's basically what the message was after, so it's cool."

The Grizzlies are 3-3 to start the 2025-26 season.

Morant, 26, is averaging 20.8 points, 3.3 boards, and 6.7 assists while playing 28.5 minutes per game through six contests this year. The two-time All-Star is shooting just 15.6% from deep.
