Celtics' Gerald Wallace confused after being removed from starting lineup
Boston Celtics forward Gerald Wallace was demoted to the bench for Wednesday's game against Utah and he was not happy about it.
Acquired during the offseason from Brooklyn, Wallace has been no stranger to voicing his displeasure with being on a rebuilding team.
"It’s tough for me to adjust to everything. I’m trying to just figure out my role and do the best that I can in that role," Wallace told the Boston Globe. "Once I figure that out, then hopefully I’ll be more comfortable in the situation."
Wallace admitted he has no clue as to the reason for the demotion and believes his play has been sufficient enough to not lose his spot.
"I’m just trying to make sense of everything. I’m trying to figure out what’s really going on and go from there," he said. "I don’t have a clue. I don’t know what’s going on. My thing is, when I’m on the court, I compete to win. And when I’m not, it’s just cheer my guys on and hopefully we’ll get a win tonight."
The 31-year-old has averaged 5.5 points - well below his career average of 12.9 - 3.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists over the first four games this season.
Despite being unhappy with his new role, Wallace said that he will not approach head coach Brad Stevens about it.
"I’m done talking. Whatever they say, it’s their team," he said. "They can do whatever they want to do. (I’m just) going to come out and compete hard and try to win."
