Carmelo scores 62: Breaking down Anthony's history-making performance
It's all about 'Melo!
If you didn't tune in to Friday night's game between the New York Knicks and the Charlotte Bobcats, you missed out on the performance of a lifetime from Carmelo Anthony.
While the Knicks walked away with a 125-96 win, the final score seems somewhat irrelevant after Anthony put up a career-high and franchise record 62 points on 23-of-35 shooting (65.7 percent).

The shot chart pictured above shows just how efficiently the Syracuse product reached the 62-point mark. Through the 39 minutes he played, Anthony went 6-of-11 from beyond the arc (54.5 percent) and 10-of-10 from the free throw line.
He also went 1-of-1 from halfcourt:

It's easy to crack jokes about Anthony finishing with zero assists, but his 13 rebounds really shouldn't be overlooked. Kobe Bryant, the only other active player to score 60 points in a single game, failed to attain a double-double in any of the five games where he scored at least 60.
Bryant also never shot as well as Anthony did on Friday night in any of his five 60-point performances. Of the bunch, Kobe's best field goal percentage came against the Knicks when he dropped 61 points on 19-of-31 shooting (61.3 percent).
Coincidentally, until Friday, that 61-point game from Bryant at Madison Square Garden was the most points scored by a player in the historic arena. It's nice to see the honor being held by a Knick once again.
Following the game, Anthony and his teammates were obviously asked to speak about the incredible performance. And unsurprisingly, there were some hilarious comments:
.@carmeloanthony: "Coming into the game, for some reason, I just had a different type of focus." #Melo62

.@carmeloanthony: "It was just one of those zones you go into. Only a certain group of people know what that zone feels like." #Melo62

Iman Shumpert: "Between me and Carmelo we had 66 points."
— NBA Legion (@MySportsLegion) January 25, 2014
Shumpert said Melo's performance was jaw-dropping. Added that teammates held his arm to prevent him from subbing in for Anthony for awhile

.@tysonchandler on @carmeloanthony: "That was special tonight. That was one of the best performances of our generation." #Melo62 #nymade

JR, jokingly: "[Melo] better play the 4 the rest of the year!" This shouldnt be a joke by now, though.
