Cavaliers' Irving on rumors about wanting out: 'I'm going to be here for a long time'
It was a disappointing Thursday night for the Cleveland Cavaliers, who were hammered 117-86 by the New York Knicks.
Meanwhile, speculation outside the organization was that star point guard Kyrie Irving - who had another inefficient night Thursday - is unhappy with the franchise and could want out.
The rumors aren't exactly surprising, nor are they immediate - the Cavaliers were expected to be decent and have struggled mightily, but Irving can't become a restricted free agent until 2015 and an unrestricted one until 2016.
Of course, beat reporters pretty much have to ask Irving about the rumors when they come from someone with clout like ESPN's Chad Ford (see below). After Thursday's loss, Jason Lloyd, the Akron Beacon Journal reporter who first reported opposing general managers think Irving is pouting (see even further below), asked Irving about his alleged displeasure:
What else is Irving going to say, really, unless he wants to become a Vince Carter-like pariah? It's nice for the franchise that Irving expressed as much, but such platitudes will likely do little to stop rumors.
