GIF: Arne Duncan wins NBA Celebrity All-Star Game MVP, has crazy skills
Justice for 2013 has been served.
At last year's NBA Celebrity All-Star Game, United States Secretary of Education Arne Duncan deserved to win the Most Valuable Player award, but insufferable comedian and showman Kevin Hart took the honors.
This year, there was no mistaking who the most valuable celebrity on the floor was. And while the fans inexplicably voted Hart the MVP again, he graciously turned the award over to Duncan.
Duncan took the other celebs to school, setting a Celebrity All-Star Game record with 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting. He also added 11 rebounds, six of them on the offensive glass, a pair of steals and six dimes, none prettier than this dish in the fourth quarter:

Duncan's East team (coached by Jalen Rose) won the game, 60-56 over Hart's West squad (coached by Bill Simmons), and they outscored the West by 19 points in the 35 minutes Duncan played. In the other five minutes, they were outscored by 15. That's what you call an MVP, though it's hardly a surprise given that Duncan played Division-I ball at Harvard and played professionally in Australia.
EAST | Minutes | Net |
---|---|---|
with Duncan | 35 | 19 |
without Duncan | 5 | -15 |
Here are some other appreciable stat lines from the game:
- WNBA star Skylar Diggins had 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting.
- Romeo Miller scored 13 points with six rebounds and four assists.
- Hart scored seven points with four assists but shot just 2-of-11.
- Michael B. Jordan led the West with 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting.
- Bruce Bowen, the only person in the game to have played in the NBA, shot 1-of-7.
- Snoop Dogg had the only other double-double in the game with 11 points, 11 boards and one fantastic celebration.
