Spurs trio could pass Showtime Lakers for 2nd in teammate wins Friday
Should the San Antonio Spurs play all of their veterans and defeat the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night - they're 17-point favorites, so the latter seems likely - their veteran trio will enter some rarefied air.
With a win, the combination of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili will reach 491 as a trio, passing the Showtime Lakers (Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Michael Cooper) for second all-time among threesomes. This in just their 664th game together, an incredible .739 winning percentage.
The trio remain another season or two away from the all-time record, however, as the Boston Celtics combo of Kevin McHale, Larry Bird and Robert Parish top the list with 540.
The Spurs' trio also ranks second all-time in playoff wins with 101, trailing the Showtime Lakers, who have 110.
It's pretty incredible that they've been able to stay together for so long and maintain such an elite track record of success.

Oh, and it's probably unfair that coach Gregg Popovich gets left out of all of this, because he's been just as much a part of it as the three players.
UPDATE: They did it!
