Melo on Phil's arrival: 'I'm willing to do whatever'
Amid all of the mixed messages he's been sending in regards to Phil Jackson's much-publicized arrival in New York, Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony has maintained that he plans to opt out of his contract and become a free agent this summer. Nobody is sure whether that means he intends to re-up with the Knicks on a new max deal, or cut his losses after a four-year stint in New York that's produced just one playoff series win.
Melo continues to drop cryptic hints about a potential pairing with Phil, most recently discussing his willingness to adapt his playing style in whatever way Jackson might hypothetically demand.
As long as it's gonna put me in a position to win, I'm willing to do whatever. I'm not sold or stuck on my play. What I've been able to do these past 10-11 years has gotten me at where I am right now. If Phil wants to come in and change that this late in my career, if it's going to help me win a championship, I'm with it.
Anthony is presumably trying to dispel the popular notion that he's too iso-dependent to succeed in Jackson's more team-oriented Triangle offense. But he'll have a tough time convincing anybody of anything until he decides what uniform he'll be wearing next season.
