Report: Zach Randolph will be the focus of Grizzlies' offseason plans
The Memphis Grizzlies, though open to the idea of bringing back Pau Gasol, are reportedly focusing the majority of their offseason efforts on retaining Zach Randolph.
According to Sam Amick of USA TODAY Sports, the Grizzlies' interest in Gasol is secondary to Randolph, who has yet to say whether he plans to opt out of his contract. If the Grizzlies are able to re-sign Randolph to a long-term deal, which CEO Jason Levien said is a priority, the question then becomes whether Gasol would be willing to play a complementary role in Memphis.
Gasol spent the first six seasons of his NBA career with the Grizzlies and has expressed interest in reuniting with his brother, Marc Gasol, but Amick notes that it would likely mean accepting a contract below market value.
The Grizzlies would have approximately $48 million committed in salaries for next season if Randolph were to opt out, with an expected salary cap of around $59 million.
