Kobe Bryant forms his own company: Kobe Inc.
This sounds like something straight out of The Onion.
In an exclusive interview with ESPN's Darren Rovell, Lakers guard Kobe Bryant revealed that he formed his own company, called Kobe Inc. He envisions his company spawning new businesses in addition to investing in other companies related to the sporting industry.
"I want to be a part of something and if you want to be a true entrepreneur you have to put skin in the game," Bryant said. "At this stage in my life, I don't have the interest in taking on any more endorsements.
"We want to own and help grow brands and ideas that challenge and redefine the sports industry while inspiring. If it doesn't have the limbs of the sports industry, which I understand extremely well, then I probably won't touch it."
Bryant, who is currently rehabbing an injured Achilles, cited that the idea of entering the world of business has been an interest of his dating back to 2000.
Kobe also revealed that his company's first investment will be in sports drink company BODYARMOR, which boasts such sponsors as MLB's Mike Trout and Buster Posey, and the NFL's Andrew Luck and Rob Gronkowski.
When asked about his expectations of his new occupation in business, Kobe chimed in with the most Kobe-ist of comments: "I can only imagine it's basically the same stressful, miserable, joyful, blessed journey."
Just curious, what do you get when you cross a Black Mamba with a Wolf of Wall Street? We'll have to wait and see.
