Bob Knight on NBA: 'It's as though they've raped college basketball'
Bob Knight had some damning (and controversial) remarks about the relationship between the NBA and college basketball on Tuesday morning.
Appearing on ESPN Radio's "Mike and Mike" show, Knight was asked about "one-and-done" players, those who play their freshman season in the NCAA and then bolt for the NBA. Specifically, Knight was asked how much a poor outing from a prospect in the NCAA Tournament would give him pause in evaluating that player.
He started by answering the question, and then devolved into a terribly offensive analogy:
You know, if I were involved with the NBA, I wouldn't want a 19-year-old or a 20-year-old kid. That's the last thing I would want to bring in to all the travel and all the problems that exist in the NBA. I would want a much more mature kid, I would want a kid that maybe I've been watching on another team and now he's 21, 22 years old instead of 18 or 19. And I might trade for that kid.
But I think, on top of it all, thew NBA does a tremendous, a gigantic disservice to college basketball. It's as though they've raped college basketball, in my opinion.

It's not the first time Knight has gone to that well: in 1988, Knight told NBC's Connie Chung, "I think that if rape is inevitable, relax and enjoy it."
