2014 NBA playoffs: Round 1 matchups set
The matchups for the first round of the NBA playoffs have been determined in the Western Conference.
Entering Wednesday night, only the Houston Rockets and Portland Trail Blazers were scheduled to meet in the first round, with the former guaranteed home-court advantage after taking the season series 3-1. However, the other three series are now also set in stone.
With a 112-111 victory against the Detroit Pistons, in which Kevin Durant threw down the game-winning dunk, the Oklahoma City Thunder clinched the second seed in the West. The result also guaranteed that the Los Angeles Clippers meet the Golden State Warriors in the first round, a matchup that will likely bring their rivalry to a whole other level.
Following the Thunder's win, all that was left to decide was who would finish seventh and eighth in the West as the Dallas Mavericks hosted the Memphis Grizzlies sharing a 49-32 record. Overtime was needed, and the Grizzlies emerged with a 106-105 win to grab the seventh seed and set up a first-round matchup against the Thunder.
Dallas will now be forced to renew their Texas rivalry against the league-best San Antonio Spurs.
