Report: Jameer Nelson, Arron Afflalo among Bobcats' trade targets
The Charlotte Bobcats were eliminated from the playoffs after falling to the Miami Heat on Monday night, meaning it's now time for the franchise to look ahead to the 2014-15 season.
And according to a report from Marc Stein, their search for new players is already underway.
Per ESPN:
The rumbles have already begun that a player Clifford is said to regard with real fondness after working with him in Orlando as an assistant -- vet floor leader Jameer Nelson -- as well as current Magic swingman Arron Afflalo will be among the Bobcats' trade targets.
Considering the Bobcats need to address their holes at small forward and backup point guard, the report makes a lot of sense.
As it stands, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist starts at the three. While he's already proven to be a capable defender through his first two seasons in the NBA, he's not exactly the type of player who can take the Bobcats to the next level. In terms of backup point guard, it goes without saying that Charlotte needs an improvement on Luke Ridnour.
But if the Bobcats want to acquire Afflalo and Nelson, they'll need to part with some pieces as both players are signed through next season. Afflalo, 28, is set to earn $7.5 million next year and also has a player option for 2015-16 valued at the same amount. Nelson, 32, will make $8 million in the final year of his contract, but only $2 million if he's waived before July 15.
Stein's report also mentions that the Bobcats hope to re-sign frontcourt newcomer Josh McRoberts, who is expected to decline his $2.8-million player options for next season and become a free agent.
