Report: Francisco Garcia will decline 2014-15 player option
LeBron James has some competition as the biggest name on the free agent market for the summer of 2014.
Move over, Chosen One, Francisco Garcia is fit to cash in, too.
Yes, Garcia will be declining his 2014-15 player option with the Houston Rockets in order to pursue a multi-year deal, according to CSNNW. The move makes complete sense, as Garcia was set to earn $1.3 million on the option year, the minimum for a veteran of his experience (nine seasons).
By hitting the market, Garcia risks nothing so long as he eventually secures a job, and could stand to gain if a team pays above the minimum or guarantees a second year.
The decision also helps the Rockets by clearing that figure from their books ahead of free agency, edging them slightly further below the salary cap.
As for potential suitors, well, Garcia should find a home. He'll be 32 when the season begins and averaged 5.7 points in 19.7 minutes this season while shooting 35.8 percent on threes. He's a 36.1 percent long-range marksmen for his career, the primary reason teams may inquire.
