Spurs' role players know there's no better place to be than San Antonio
One win away from the franchise's fifth NBA title in 15 years, and in a Finals series in which the team has dominated a team that wasn't supposed to be dominated, it has never been more apparent that the San Antonio Spurs' system can make ordinary players look extraordinary.
That fact isn't lost on the the Spurs' role players.
"I'm blessed to be a part of this organization, a part of this team," said Danny Green, via CBSSports.com. "I'm blessed to play with so many greats, Tim (Duncan), Tony (Parker), and Manu (Ginobili). And hopefully they can stick around a little bit longer to help my career out. "
Green came to San Antonio after starting his career in Cleveland, then spending time in the D-League before finally sticking with the Spurs. As for Tiago Splitter, San Antonio is the only NBA home he's ever known.
"No, the way I play," Splitter said. "I don't feel like right now I have a better place to be. I'm really happy to be here and hopefully I can be here longer."
Kawhi Leonard is another Spurs lifer, spending each of his three NBA seasons in San Antonio. He can't imagine playing anywhere else.
"This was the team that drafted me." Leonard said. "I wanted to be on a team that knew how to win when I got drafted. So no, I can't imagine it."
The team could be in for some turnover in the offseason, with rumors of Gregg Popovich, Tim Duncan, and even Manu Ginobili pondering retirement, but with the show they've put on in the Finals, attracting talent to the program won't be difficult.
