Report: Warriors trade talks for Kevin Love 'have hit an impasse' due to 'organizational split'

The rumors swirling around a Kevin Love-to-Golden State deal cooled off quite a bit over the weekend, as the Warriors front office is reportedly split on whether or not to deal Klay Thompson as part of a package (see the post below for more).

If that sounds like it's not a big deal, a report from ESPN makes it seem as if the rift between pro-trade and anti-trade factions within the organization is a meaningful one:

The Golden State Warriors have hit an impasse in their trade pursuit of All-Star forward Kevin Love due to what is being described as an "organizational split" on the willingness to part with prized shooting guard Klay Thompson, according to sources close to the process.

But sources say the talks, which were gathering momentum in advance of the upcoming NBA draft, have stalled.

What's more, general manager Bob Myers said "I think it's unlikely" the team gets a deal done before July 1.

While normally this wouldn't raise a flag, it continues a somewhat dramatic year for the Warriors organization. Mark Jackson was let go as head coach amid reported turmoil on the coaching staff, and there already appears to be a disconnect between the front office and new head coach Steve Kerr, at least when it comes to Thompson (once again, see the post below).

The Warriors would be wise to take a close look at the proposed framework, be sure not to anchor their valuation of their in-house talent, and try to get everyone on the same page. Or at least stop allowing the dysfunction to leak publicly.
