Stan Van Gundy and the Detroit Pistons need shooters to surround their formidable frontcourt, and there may be no better candidate on the market than Anthony Morrow, who became an unrestricted free agent on Tuesday.

The Pistons are said to be approaching Morrow early, which makes all kind of sense from a fit perspective.

The Pistons are on record as wanting to use their cap space to plug multiple holes rather than land a solitary impact name, and Morrow fits that edict. He earned just $1.03 million last season and declined a $1.15 million player option for 2014-15, but it's unlikely he would command more than the three-year, $12 million he signed with New Jersey as a free agent in 2010.

Morrow has quietly built up a reputation as one of the league's premier 3-point shooters, a reputation lost in part due to an injury-shortened 2012-13 derailing some of that momentum. This past season, he shot 45.1 percent from long range and is a 42.8 percent career 3-point shooter, ranking 46th in the NBA in total makes since entering the league in 2009-10 with 546.
