The Detroit Pistons under president Stan Van Gundy want to re-sign restricted free-agent forward Greg Monroe, and the bidding has reportedly started.
The deal in question, as relayed by ESPN's Michael Wallace, is reportedly for 5-years and $60 million, similar to what Washington Wizards center Marcin Gortat received this offseason.
No deal has yet to be consummated, but the two sides seem amenable to the idea of a reunion, but it will be a matter of price, in the words of Van Gundy:
We want Greg back, but it's got to be a mutual thing, too. There's no hesitation there. From Day 1, I think Greg can tell you I ... made it clear to him that we want him back. We haven't wavered on that at all. Look, he's more important than anyone on the free agent market to us.
Last season, the 24-year-old Monroe averaged 15.2 points, 9 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game last season. He is a dominant post-up player with some defensive shortcomings.
