It doesn't necessarily change much for the Houston Rockets, but their signing of Trevor Ariza is now said to be part of a sign-and-trade deal with the Washington Wizards.
This comes via Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, who reports that the Wizards will pick up a trade exception worth $8.5 million in the deal. Since the Wizards must technically receive something tangible in a trade, Houston will likely send a heavily protected future second-round pick or the rights to an international player.
The Wizards will then have one year to use the exception in a future deal.
For the Rockets, all that matters is that they have Ariza, especially now that Chandler Parsons is officially a Dallas Maverick. Depending on what other moves they make this offseason, it's possible that Ariza arriving via sign-and-trade could allow them a bit more flexibility in filling out the roster.
