The Washington Wizards have re-signed veteran forward Drew Gooden, according to a release from the team.
Team president Ernie Grunfeld cited Gooden's positive influence after joining the team in late February of this past season as a key reason for bringing the 32-year-old back.
"The addition of Drew was a big part of our success late last season and we are excited to have him back with us," Grunfeld said. "His skills will help to solidify our front court rotation and his experience will help us continue to grow as a team."
While the team did not release terms of the contract, the deal is said to be a one-year contract at the veteran minimum, which pays Gooden $1.4 million but only costs the Wizards $915,243 for salary cap and luxury tax purposes.
Gooden spent most of last season on the sidelines after playing just 16 games in 2012-13, but he was solid in his 22 games with the Wizards, averaging 8.3 points and 5.2 rebounds while shooting 53.1 percent from the floor. In 10 playoff games, Gooden saw his roll shrink some and his shooting percentage drop to 36.8 percent.
Naturally, Gooden is excited about returning.
I guess it's official now!! I am proud to say I'm a Washington Wizard again!! #WizNation #dcRising #NoDaysOff
