Report: Sam Cassell to become Clippers assistant coach
After the Cleveland Cavaliers lured Tyronn Lue away from the Los Angeles Clippers by reportedly making him the highest-paid assistant coach in league history, the Clippers will apparently be turning to one of their former point guards to fill the available position.
Cassell, who spent the majority of his final three years in the NBA with the Clippers, and has been linked to a coaching job with the franchise throughout the summer, got his coaching debut in 2009 as an assistant with Flip Saunders' Washington Wizards.
But despite having spent the past five seasons as a loyal member of the Wizards' coaching staff, it appears he'll now be joining forces with Doc Rivers once again. Cassell was part of the 2007-08 Boston Celtics team that won the NBA Finals under Rivers, and the two will surely have their sights on another championship ring this upcoming season.
