Appling averaged 11.2 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.0 rebounds in his senior year with the Spartans, helping the team reach the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament where they were bounced 60-54 by UConn.
The no-risk move could help the Lakers add some depth at the one, a position where they were stocked up last season before a number of players fell victim to injury.
