Irving will start in final Team USA tuneup game, could alternate with Rose during tournament
Kyrie Irving is getting the start at point guard in Team USA's final tuneup game prior to the FIBA World Cup, but coach Mike Krzyzewski cautioned against assuming this meant Irving would start over Derrick Rose during the tournament.
"We'll see as thing goes on," Krzyzewski told reporters after Monday's two-hour practice. "We might alternate them. Both of them are going to play significant minutes."
Krzyzewski is also considering having Irving and Rose share the court as Rose gets back to full speed following two major knee surgeries. The coach suggested Rose is growing weary of people inquiring about his health.
I asked him today, and he said, "I feel great." He did everything. He's full go. I think there's a part of him that's like: "Quit asking me how I feel. I'm good." So I'm not going to ask him anymore.
