Report: Charlie Villanueva to decide between minimum offers from Mavs, Clippers

Winslow Townson / USA TODAY Sports

In the latest instalment of his web series Crossroads (watch below), Charlie Villanueva reveals that he expects to have some sort of deal finalized by late August or early September. While the veteran stretch-four is still a free agent, it sounds like he's getting closer to that deal.

It's unlikely that either team will be able to offer Villanueva much in the form of playing time, given that the Mavericks already have more than 15 players and the Clippers have five big men in Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, Spencer Hawes, Glen Davis and Ekpe Udoh, with Hawes serving as a floor-stretching shooter. But when you haven't been scooped up by September, there's usually a reason, and you can't exactly be picky about potential landing spots.

In the fifth and final year of his lucrative five-year contract with the Pistons last season, Villanueva averaged career-lows of 4.6 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 9.0 minutes per game in just 20 games played.
