Brandon Jennings clarifies extent of offseason muscle gain
Brandon Jennings apparently learned his way around the gym this offseason, but while the Detroit Pistons' point guard is most definitely bragging about how swole the pipes have gotten, he wants to make sure everyone isn't expecting Thomas Jones on the hardwood next month.
The claim that Jennings added 25 pounds seemed a bit ludicrous at first blush. He was listed at 6-foot-1 and just 169 pounds last season, so adding 25 pounds of beef – pushing him to 194 pounds – would represent a 14.8 percent gain. One hundred and ninety-four pounds would be a shade over fellow 6-foot-1 point guards Eric Bledsoe and Mario Chalmers, as examples, who appear appreciably bulkier than Jennings.
In the article Jennings is referencing – see the post below for more from that piece – he told The Detroit News that he was at "about 185" and "190 on my good days."
One hundred and ninety even seems a little tough to believe, but 185 could be a nice playing weight for the 24-year-old.
While he's been solid through five seasons, his scoring dipped last season, thanks in part to an anemic 52.9 percent mark on shots at the rim, the 11th-worst mark in the league among players who took 100 attempts at the rim. The additional weight should help him finish stronger, particularly in traffic.
