Report: Darko Milicic giving up basketball for kickboxing
One of the most scrutinized careers in modern NBA history might be coming to an official end, as Darko Milicic will reportedly give up basketball to become a professional kickboxer, according to NBASerbia.com (via SI.com).
According to the report, Milicic will sign a contract on Wednesday, when he will also announce the details of his first fight.
The 7-foot-0, 275-pound big man was famously selected by the Pistons with the second pick in the legendary 2003 draft, immediately after LeBron James went No. 1 to Cleveland.
Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade were selected with the next three picks.
Milicic, who hasn't appeared in an NBA game since 2012, averaged six points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 18.5 minutes per game over 10 seasons with the Pistons, Magic, Grizzlies, Knicks, Timberwolves and Celtics.
Milicic earned more than $52 million over the span of that career, according to Basketball Reference.
