Knicks' Calderon out 2-3 weeks with calf strain
New York Knicks point guard Jose Calderon will miss the next 2-3 weeks with a right calf strain, the team announced on Thursday.
Calderon, who was acquired by the Knicks in the offseason trade that sent Tyson Chandler back to Dallas, missed Wednesday's season opening loss to the Chicago Bulls because of the injury.
Calderon's extended absence is a blow to a Knicks team still trying to learn the triangle offense under new coach Derek Fisher. As a veteran, sharpshooting point guard who takes care of the ball, Calderon is a perfect fit for the triangle.
Pablo Prigioni and Shane Larkin will have to fill the void in his absence.
Calderon, a career 41 percent 3-point shooter, averaged 11.4 points, 4.7 assists and 2.4 rebounds in 81 games with the Mavericks last season.
