Durant admits George's leg injury caused him to withdraw from Team USA
To no one's surprise, the horrific injury suffered by swingman Paul George during Team USA training camp was one of the key factors in Kevin Durant's last-minute decision to withdraw from the FIBA World Cup.
As relayed by Michael Lee of the Washington Post, Durant opened up about his reaction to George's broken leg in the upcoming HBO sports documentary about his offseason.
“It took everything out of me seeing that,” Durant told friend Randy Williams and a Nike executive at his camp. “Everything I had to play for Team USA, that injury stripped it away from me.”
“It felt awkward,” Durant went on. “Once we were playing, it just didn’t feel right for some reason. (...)
"When you see something like that, so gruesome, in front of you, of course you’re going to think, 'This could happen to me.'"
