NBA unveils All-Star uniforms
With this season's All-Star game taking place in New York, the NBA has released uniforms for the game that represent the city's five boroughs and its history of basketball culture.
“The NBA All-Star Game is a celebration of the host city and basketball culture, and this year we created our most detailed and sophisticated uniforms to date that pay homage to New York and All-Star weekend,” Adidas global basketball general manager Chris Grancio said in an NBA media release.
The Western Conference will wear black jerseys during the Feb. 15 game, while the East will wear white.
The jerseys will have players' first and last names on the back, featuring the New York Knicks' font.
The five stars that run along the side panels of the jerseys each represent one of New York's five boroughs.
As detailed by the NBA's release:
Queens: pattern inspired by the stainless steel orbit rings of the borough’s iconic Unisphere that was built for the 1964 World’s Fair at Flushing Meadows - Corona Park
Staten Island: a wave pattern to signify its surrounding waters
Manhattan: a taxi-cab checkered pattern represents the pace and energy of the world’s most cosmopolitan city
The Bronx: a vinyl record pattern to pay homage to the birthplace of hip-hop and the rich musical legacy of New York City
Brooklyn: a brick pattern inspired by the iconic brownstone houses and buildings that make up the neighborhoods of the city’s most populous borough
The Feb. 15 game will take place at Madison Square Garden, while Saturday night's All-Star festivities are set for Brooklyn's Barclays Center.
