Kings officially fire Mike Malone, hire Tyrone Corbin as interim coach
The Mike Malone era in Sacramento has officially come to an end.
Kings general manager Pete D'Alessandro severed ties with Malone in a press conference on Monday afternoon.
The Kings will be coached by former assistant head coach Tyrone Corbin, who will take over on an interim basis. Multiple reports link former Nuggets head coach George Karl as a potential long-term replacement.
"This was an extremely difficult decision, but one we feel is in the best interest of the franchise moving forward," said D’Alessandro. "Michael made significant contributions to the organization on many levels and helped foster cultural changes that positively impacted our team. We’re thankful for the commitment he exhibited during his time in Sacramento and wish him and his family the very best in the future."
Malone's record with the Kings spanned 106 games, with 39 wins against 67 losses, across the last two seasons.
