Warriors' Kerr on why superstars take last shots: 'Because people are idiots, that’s why'
One of the most frustrating things for basketball fans to watch is their favorite team wasting crunch time possessions with stagnant, hero-ball isolation plays.
It's unimaginative work from coaches, rarely effective, and not exactly aesthetically appealing for viewers.
Rookie head coach Steve Kerr, who has guided the Golden State Warriors to a ludicrous 21-2 start to the season, appears to have been sent here to deliver us from such predictable late-game situations.
In reference to teams' superstars taking the last shots, Kerr was brutally honest, as reported by ESPN's Ethan Sherwood Strauss.
"It's because people are idiots, that’s why," Kerr said. "The point of the game is to get an open shot and if a guy's double-teamed he should pass it. That's the game."
Kerr would know, as he famously knocked down the championship-winning shot in the 1997 Finals thanks to a pass from Michael Jordan.
